Email validation

Email validation for signup forms

Catch throwaway inboxes, typos and dead domains before they become accounts. One check per address, with the fix when it is a typo.

  • 30,000 free requests a month
  • 1 request per address
  • Only the domain is logged

What it checks

Five checks in one call

They run in this order and stop at the first hard failure.

  1. 1

    Format

Syntax and length, read the way mail servers read them.

  2. 2

    Throwaway domains

About 10,000 disposable domains, refreshed every day.

  3. 3

    Mail server

The domain must publish MX records. Answers are cached for 6 hours.

  4. 4

    Typos, with the fix

gmial.com comes back with gmail.com, ready for a "did you mean".

  5. 5

    Role addresses

info@, admin@ and support@ come back risky, so you decide.

Signup Gate

Every signup, checked as it is submitted

Signup Gate puts this check on your form, with the bot and VPN checks, in the verify call your server already makes. Fake addresses and scripted signups never become accounts.

The answer

Every address gets one of four answers

Each one carries its reason, so your form can say what to fix.

  • maria@northwind.io

Valid. Well formed, a real mail server, nothing flagged.

  • jane@gmial.com

Risky. A throwaway domain, a typo or a role address. The reason says which, and a typo comes with the fix.

  • sam@northwind.example

Invalid. Bad format, or a domain that takes no mail.

  • lee@slow-dns.example

Unknown. DNS did not answer in time. Retry, or let the signup through.

FAQ

Common questions

No. It checks that the address can receive mail: valid format, a real mail server, not a throwaway domain. The mailbox itself is not probed, and every answer says so with "mailbox": "not_checked".
